The Big-Time Bus from Max Headroom [Exterior]

There are at least two different bus models used in the show. One of them has been modified differently in a couple shots, but is probably the same bus. The first bus (above) is used in the British Channel 4 "20 Minutes Into the Future" 'pilot,' the other is used throughout the American television series and is completely different. (Below)

Right now we know neither of the exact models used, and though we are more likely to find the one used in the American television series, but we are researching that and if you can help us identify them please do so.

We would also like to put the word out just in case one of these two props is still around and if anybody knows where they might be, if anyone has them, or has pictures or saw them once at some time, again, please let us know.

In this shot, it appears as though a fake third wheel has been added, it is not present in other shots nor is there one on the other side of the bus.

This is a British model bus as one can see the door is on the left side of the bus.

A middle section which appears to be a door or hatch or open baggage area is either added here, or revealed here in this particular shot.

Here you can see the third wheel is missing, and the black rectangle in the middle of the bus is also missing. This is probably an open hatch. It appears to be the same bus model, modified or not. The 'front' is to the left side of the picture of above and picture-right.

We'll have to decide what modifications we'll have to make considering there are multiple buses and we may end up using a model completely different if that is all we can find.

The rear of the British model bus without third wheel here just before the gear on the roof is ripped off while driving into the building.

The American bus has big fluorescent lights added to the sides and might be just a little bit bigger than the first model. It also has another satellite dish on top.

There are other modifications like ducts and other 'sci-fi' attachments on the sides.

It still has multiple hubcaps or other misc stuff attached to the front as in the original bus. If we can find this model it would be excellent as we could make it look as identical as possible, but we still have not figured out the exact model yet. We have a mechanic willing to help with getting it up and running and making modifications to the body, painting, etc.

It may not be street legal to add these fluorescent lights on the sides, but wouldn't it look nice in a parking lot at night? Great for parties and events...

  1. In that shot of the bus with the "third wheel" I think you'll find that it isn't attached to the bus. If you look close, the front wheel is off. That's the front wheel leaning against the side. There's actually a line in the story where Reg mentions he needs to go put the wheel back on.
